Obama in favor of Gay Marriage, celebrating Wed night with my workmate (and a rusty fox)

10 May

Obama is for gay marriage! I’m so glad to see this. We are getting closer and closer to being a civilized society. Equality is key. And respect for others.

Unrelated to Obama pronouncing he is for gay marriage (if I would have known this last night I would have been celebrating a bit more I think)…in the spirit of it being “ombligo,” or in Spanish, the middle of the week, Linda and I decided to have a few drinks at Eastside Bar on 47th St./McDowell.

In the spirit of full disclosure, I wasn’t going to go because of lack of funds, but she promised it would be her “shout,” so a drinking we went.

We found the lovely Adriene behind the bar (Linda’s daughter).

Isn’t she dishy?

If you ask Adriene nicely, she will make you her signature drink, a Rusty Fox (her special concoction of Midori, Malibu rum, pineapple juice, cranberry juice and ? she won’t say what the last ingredient is. She explains this is common for bartenders who have special signature drinks, they don’t give away the full recipe. So you can sort of make it at home. But you will have to “go fish” for the last ingredient).

If you frequent Eastside, and it is your birthday month, your name goes on “the board.” This says to me, there is a real sense of community here.

Also on Wed nights, you will find a nice pizza guy there (forgive me for forgetting your name) who looks a bit like Mario Batali (the kitchen wench has a one track mind pertaining to Mario) who rumor has it works during the day for the competition…so you know he knows what he is doing. I enjoyed a slice of pepperoni that he prepared especially for me (my head is swelling now) and every bite was delicious. It is a very large slice, very thin and it is served piping hot. Don’t eat it too fast when it first comes out lest you burn your tongue.

After two rusty foxes last night, needless to say… I’m hydrating this morning (and caffineating).

Get yourself to Eastside Bar. It is unassuming and organic. You might find yourself among bill collectors (ahem), servers from AZ Country Club, a dancer, a lady of the night…but mostly just regular folks. Rumor has it that the owner is trying to step it up a bit in terms of the clientele, so this is a shout out to my gays, friends from Parlor, Windsor and North. Come check this place out. They have live music on Sat nights.
