Out of Africa Wildlife Park and Mariscos Chihuahua

9 Oct

Have you been to Out of Africa Wildlife Park yet? It is a good day trip and they have a coupon for half off on their website through 10/16/2011. http://www.outofafricapark.com/

We went yesterday, it’s just a short drive from Tempe (maybe 1 1/2 hours to Camp Verde) and the weather was so pretty. We walked around the park for a good 3-4 hours (dismissed the tram) and saw all kinds of neat animals, up close. Like this giraffe…

And the tigers…(behind me).

Afterwards we needed a feed and we were planning on going over to the 5 and Diner on Indian Bend since Jack said they have a car show on Friday and Saturday evenings. Well, the 101 was messed up going east so we hopped off at 51st Ave. and started looking at his gps for Mexican food places. We decided on Mariscos Chihuahua http://www.azcentral.com/thingstodo/dining/Mariscos_Chihuahua_719865608419 on 19th Ave./Indian School. This place is so great! We shared a medium shrimp cocktail (with crispy corn tortillas and salty crackers) and Jack had 6 oysters. Then we finished off dinner with a mojarra frita (a whole fried tilapia) that came with white rice, french fries and a salad. And he enjoyed a Dos Equis and there was a michelada for me.

All of that for about $31.00 (this includes the flan we took home). A great deal, in the kitchen wench’s opinion.

And on Tuesday nights you can get a dozen oysters for .99 cents.  Really! I’m guessing they sell a lot of beer that night. Did I mention they have a great beer selection?

I did take a picture of our fish but somehow it got lost on my phone (user error) – sorry about that. You’ll have to go see the whole fried fish (and try one) for yourself.  🙂
